Niagara Falls is definitely known for its outdoor attractions and there are no shortage of them in this town. Many parks call this area home, from small memorial parks to large parks with fields of green, green grass. Taking time out from a hectic day to just sit on a bench and feel the sun on your face is a wondrous endeavor, and with all of the parks in the area this simple pleasure is well within reach.
Bronte Creek- This park is full of history and culture. On the grounds in a farmhouse circa 1890 and occasionally characters and performers roam the area giving impromptu history lessons. With a petting zoo and a playground area, the youngsters are kept happy and entertained. Camping facilities and an outdoor pool are on the grounds and are popular destinations during the summer. In the winter there is an ice skating rink as well as room for cross country skiing.
Devil's Hole State Park- Frequented by fisherman looking to make a big catch, Devil's Hole State Park is 42 acres of beautiful outdoor area. There are caves and trails all waiting to be explored. During the winter cross country skiing and snowshoeing are popular in this park.
Fort Niagara State Park- Located right next to the Niagara River this park is a haven for water sports and river activity. Two boat launches allow for great river access. Hiking trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, and swimming pools are just a few of the other great activities available at this park.
Four Mile Creek State Park- This park is predominantly visited by campers, and it is a wonderful camping destination. Over 250 campsites are available for use. There are laundry facilities and a playground for children. There is also an abundance of wildlife in this area, and great fishing opportunities in Four Mile Creek.
Golden Hill State Park- This park has a little bit of everything. There are boat launch sites, campsites, playgrounds, and much more. There are also nature trails and playing fields. Located inside the park is the Thirty Mile Lighthouse which is a beloved historical landmark. So grab the kids, pack a lunch, and head out for a day of outdoor excitement.
Niagara Falls State Park- Set right next to the world famous Niagara Falls, Niagara Falls State Park is a beautiful and breathtaking area to visit. The backdrop of the Falls provides wondrous views in addition to the activities found inside the park. Inside is a 1.5 acre garden with over 26,000 blooming tulips yearly. Hundreds of thousands of other flowers bloom annually perfuming the air with their sweet scent.
Niagara Glen Nature Area- See several historic natural landmarks in this exciting area. Located on the Wintergreen Flats, some of the most intriguing natural wonders in the area can be viewed here. There is the Devil's Arch, the leaning rock, a mammoth pothole and so much more. When you are through enjoying the natural wonders take a break and cast out a line, as fishing is a popular pastime here.
Prospect Point Park- See two amazing waterfalls at Prospect Point Park. See Niagara Falls on the American side and also be rewarded with views of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. With some of the most amazing views of the Falls everywhere, when visiting Prospect Point you will be breathless and amazed.
Queen Victoria Park- This park is dedicated to the beauty of nature and has several wonderful flower gardens on-site. There is a rock garden, a hybrid tea rose garden, and more. Even during the winter, the ice forming on the trees creates a beautiful scene.
Reservoir State Park- This park is a haven for sports fans. There are 8 baseball diamonds, four tennis courts, a softball field, and basketball courts. Fishing and hiking are also popular activities inside the park. There are several picnic areas available.
Whirlpool State Park- This park has two tiers for maximum viewing pleasure. Birds eye views of the Niagara River whirlpool and other river attractions can be found right here. Up to 300 feet of nature trails can be found inside this park, providing a wonderful place for a walk or a run. The park is fishing accessible, making that another popular pastime.
Wilson-Tuscarora State Park- With 395 acres of forests, marshland, and meadows, the plant and animal life in this park is, to say the least, abundant. Great for people who enjoy seeing animals in their natural habitat, this park has a wealth of activities to offer. A boat ramp, sandy beach, walking trails, and much more can all be found here.
