The Niagara Falls Horticultural Society's Annual Garden Walk is a favorite summer attraction for both tourists and local residents. Each July, since 1994, the event draws large crowds of visitors and gardening enthusiasts. Private gardens are open to the public, displaying some of the areas most colorful and spectacular blooms at the height of the season. Gardeners are on hand to share their gardening tips and give advice to other flower and garden lovers. Spectators particularly enjoy the color and fragrance of remarkable and rare roses, a specialty of Niagara Falls horticulturists.
The Annual Garden Walk is one of three major events sponsored by the Niagara Falls Horticultural Society to promote the region's gardening each year. Their Rose Flower Show has been held every June for the past fifty-five years. In August, the group sponsors its Annual Flower Vegetable Show, just before the harvest season begins.
The Niagara Falls Horticultural Society has been meeting regularly since 1917, and is one of Ontario's oldest horticultural clubs. Throughout the year, the club hosts a number of seminars on garden design and how individual gardens can help beautify the community. Recent projects have included a 'Best Neighborhood' competition, planting and maintaining flower beds and planters throughout the city, at fire stations and the public library. The group also contributes to scholarships for students at the Niagara Parks Commission School of Horticulture.
Tickets for the Annual Garden Walk can be purchased in advance or on the day of the event by contacting the Niagara Falls Horticultural Society at the Niagara Public Library on Victoria Avenue.
