Very impressed
Super organized, the events just kept on coming. 5K, mountain bike ride, concerts, street acts, Great Lakes ships, native americans, golf driving contest (over the canal), Coast Guard Research ship, tall ship's tours, classy little museum - the variety of entertainment was unbelievable for the size of the town. Shops are really nice & reasonable, too. Even the Food Wagon vendors were polite & pretty efficient. This town has a can-do attitude and works with their festival participants. My son is crew on the Niagara and they felt very welcome. The town's hall was open and staffed on a Saturday night for questions - unbelievable! At one point, a guardrail to the canal prevented the tall ship (Niagara) from being toured. No problem - they brought out the pipe cutters and within 1/2 hour the ship was ready to go. (Most places in the US, this would require a committee, 6 months and legal council.) Parking not a big deal, we always found something fairly close. Bring a lock for your bike, though, because you can't ride it through much of the town. Missed the fireworks, but my son (the Niagara crewman) told me they were the best he'd seen on the Great Lakes all summer - this from an area that takes fireworks displays seriously. Only 2 regrets - would like to stay closer next time (stayed in Niagara Falls area) and would have liked to have gone to the concert but had teenage kids in tow - maybe an area separate for families without the beer garden would have helped. It's over a 6 hour drive for me, but I'll be back!
