Niagara Fall's Tourist District has grown into a casino based tourist entertainment area. For tourists who want to visit old Niagara Falls and enjoy some of the original events, nothing will fit the bill as well as the Niagara Folk Arts Festival at Montebello Park in St. Catharines, ON
This Folk Arts Festival is the oldest cultural festival in the Niagara area. It highlights forty years of art and food. The entertainment spans the entire spectrum. The musical programs and concerts are enough to make the weekend a 'must see event.' A citizenship ceremony welcomes new Canadians and celebrates their oath of citizenship. The entertainment continues with interactive dances, street performers, buskers, and more.
The largest commemorative rose garden surrounds an ornamental fountain, creating a stunning centerpiece. The bandstand and pavilion are both historical landmarks.
The festival runs more than two weeks in May. The best days to visit is Tuesday and Sunday, to take in one of the concerts. The Ambassador's ball kicks of all the events. Different representatives of the local cultural clubs provide information and join in the procession of ethno cultural clubs that starts at the festival and ends at the front steps of City Hall.
Each year there are various open houses where the public can witness cultural and art events. When not attending an event, visitors can browse the world bazaar and sample music, dance, costumes, and food from around the world.
Everyone will find a memory or experience that will have made the trip worthwhile.
