Niagara River International Gull Festival in Niagara Falls
There are more reasons to visit the area than the famous falls. Tourists attracted to the area by history or theme parks often overlook the cultural and arts history of the area. The Niagara River International Gull Festival is an excellent example.
The Niagara River and Gorge have are part of the Golden Triangle, one of the richest growing centers in the world. Natural erosion and climate factors have made the region a globally significant migration and breeding ground for waterfowl. There are parks and marshland all around the Niagara region dedicated to the preservation of waterfowl and gulls.
Some of the birds that frequent the area include loons, Snow Geese, Canada Geese, grebes, swans, peregrine falcons, bald eagles, and a wide variety of gulls. The festival lets tourists and locals alike take part in field trips, children's programs, and slideshow-lectures with experts.
The tours combine the Wine and Regional Cuisine with Agricultural & Ecological Tours through the Niagara Peninsula. With the support from Guelph University and Brock University, the Niagara Nature Tours offers consulting, speakers, workshops, presentations, hikes and walks.
Other events planned include The Jordan Village Nature, History & Garden Tours and the 9th Annual Summer Solstice Drumming. Both are summer events.
Visitors to the Niagara region will find a whole day's fun, with a minimal cost of admission. A firsthand experience with the natural environment is a nice break from the fast-paced theme park, and tourist attractions of the Niagara River Area. Visitors to the area can plan for a couple hours, or a full day event by contacting the tours.
