Calhoun Sportswear Factory in St Catharines, Ontario was founded by Martin Myers in 1973. It was originally called Calhoun Creations. It was later on given its present name. The factory started functioning in a basement which belonged to Myer's friend in Thorold in Ontario. It was equipped with just a single screen printing machine. They printed imported T-shirts for customized orders.
It became popular within a few months and as the orders increased, the factory shifted to an old building in an industrial area in St. Catherines. Later on it was shifted again to a still larger building in 1975. Instead of printing the imported shirts, now the factory started manufacturing its own T-shirts. The customers in the early days comprised of retailers, music stores and radio stations besides customized orders.
The factory further expanded its operations and started manufacturing clothing for students of the colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. There has been no looking back since then. It expanded further and shifted yet again to its present location on Bunting Road in St. Catherines.
The present factory is spread over an area of approximately 35,000 square feet and conducts all the manufacturing and tailoring operations including designing, cutting, sewing and printing. Another area of 10,000 square feet was added and more offices were built to house accounting and marketing departments. There is also a spacious store house covering 10,000 square feet in Buffalo in New York to cater to the US market.
