It is located on Lake Erie at the very southern position of
Welland Canal. The port was named after Sir John Colborne who was a war hero from Britain who later became the Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. The city was developed due to the need for workers at the canal and today it has the world's longest canal locks. The canal locks stretch some 1380 feet.
One of the major attractions for tourists visiting Port Colborne is the Canal Days Celebration, which is an annual festival taking place near the port itself. During the event, visitors can socialize, enjoy a range of live music, attend the local car show that takes place at the same time or enjoy the colorful kite festival that your children will love ! There are foods to taste and enjoy from around the world and plenty of children's and adult activities and attractions located within. People come from around the world for this annual festival.
This festival is in fact more than just rides and displays, there are also vendors set up with great food and shopping. You can have your choice from ice cream, ice cold lemonade, hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, fish 'n chips, and much more. Live music is another large part of this festival, with a high energy country performance and a Jimmy Buffet style band Friday evening, and then an ultimate Eagles tribute band to follow. Another attraction around here is the Marine Heritage Festival. Along with boat rides,

While in Port Colborne, consider a stop at the local town attraction called the incredible shrinking mill which is actually a grain elevator. As you travel east towards the horizon you see the mill and it seems close but as you get closer, it seems to look smaller.
