In order to get the best view of the American side of Niagara Falls, a visit to Prospect Point Park is a must. The park encompasses the American boarder of the Falls, offering a breathtaking view of
Bridal Veil Falls. From the park, you can also get a great view of semicircular
Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. You can also see where the Niagara River Rapids increase in velocity as it approaches the edge of the falls; it drops about 50 feet in elevation over a ½ mile before reaching the top of the falls.
The main attraction in the park is the New Your State Observation Tower. This 282 feet tall tower offers visitors the most spectacular view of the American side of the Falls. For a small fee, visitors can ride the glass enclosed elevators and step out on the observation deck of the tower. From there, you can either look straight down into the raging waters or directly into the cascading water fall. The Observation Tower is opened spring, summer and fall. During the Maid-of-the-Mist off season, use of the Observation Deck is free of charge.
At the bottom of the tower, you can board the boat for the
Maid of the Mist Boat Tour. This will take you for an intimate look at the base of the falls. By traveling to the base of the gorge, you can get up close and personal with the falls by climbing up to the Crows Nest observation deck. There you will have an amazing view and experience the cool spray from the falls.
