Smithville is a small agricultural village of West Lincoln. It is situated between Hamilton and Niagara Falls on the Canadian side. It is primarily an agricultural village and is known for its dairy and poultry farms. The village consists of several churches of various denominations, a departmental store and numerous restaurants. The village, interestingly enough, has just one traffic light. Although a small village, Smithville has many tourist attractions in or around it. The major attraction, of course, is Niagara Falls and numerous tourist spots scattered around it. This proximity is a source of economic prosperity to the village.
Tourists visiting the area for adventure and discovery also visit Smithville. It is a great place to visit for rest and relaxation after a hectic tour of the attractions around Niagara Falls. Smithville village community celebrates several interesting agricultural fairs and festivals all through the year. One of the important fairs is held on the Labor Day every year. It features several attractions such as a demolition derby and the battle of bands.
The most important feature that marks out Smithville from other towns and villages in the area is its Poultry Festival. It is because of this festival that Smithville is often referred to as the "Chicken Capital of Canada." Several chicken related events are held during the Poultry festival. One of these events is known as chicken chariot race. Small chariots are specially made for these chickens which they drive to compete for prizes and honor for their owners. There are also car, tractor and truck shows besides poultry exhibits and much more. There are several events and contests for kids, teens, adults and parents.
